Tom Daley is 2014 Commonwealth Games Ambassador

As ticket sales for Glasgow 2014 enter their final week, Plymouth's diving star Tom Daley has been unveiled as the latest and youngest Official Games Ambassador for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. He is set to meet fans at a special event in Glasgow on Sunday (8 September) to celebrate the announcement.

Tom joins joins fellow Olympians Sir Chris Hoy and Rebecca Adlington as an international Ambassador for the Games.

Plymouth's 19-year-old diving champion will be the star attraction at the event on Sunday 8 September in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City. Fans, who found about the special appearance from his 2.4m strong Twitter feed, will get the opportunity to welcome Tom on his first-ever visit to the city, with a lucky few getting the chance to meet their hero in person to hear at first-hand about his memories of London 2012, his plans for Glasgow 2014 and his passion for sport.

DJ and presenter Romeo will host the show in the historic Fruitmarket which will also include a performance from Official Games Mascot Clyde and his dancing crew.

Games Organisers hope the event will ensure as many young people as possible get involved in the Games before ticket sales close on 16 September. This unique experience will be on a first come first served basis and full details can be found at glasgow2014.com/tominglasgow

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Glasgow and be a part of the countdown to the Commonwealth Games. I want everyone to get behind the Games & all the athletes. It’ll be fun but tough. I have great memories of winning Gold in Delhi, so I’m totally focused on training and holding on to my title!

“In April, I experienced the enthusiasm of Scottish crowds when I won Gold at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, which is the same pool for the Commonwealth Games. I can’t wait to be back there next year and go for Gold again.”

Within the Glasgow 2014 Ticketing Programme there’s something for everyone, across 17 sports and 11 days of competition, with family-friendly pricing and a simple application process. The four-week ticketing phase must close on 16 September.
