A YOUNG football team from Saltash has swapped its second-hand kit for a smart new strip thanks to sponsors Simply Kitchens.
Bosses at the Plymouth-based company decided to back Saltash United Under 12s after being approached by a parent of one of the young players.
Playing their second season in the DJM (Devon, Junior and Minor league), the boys can now stride out on to the pitch with pride after being kitted out by Simply Kitchens bosses earlier this month.
Katrina Hanmer, spokewoman for Saltash United Under 12s, said: “The boys were playing in club kits which have all been washed more than a few times and look a bit worn.
“Thanks to Simply Kitchens the boys now have their very own strip which they look great in. The boys can take it home with them, which they couldn’t before, so it gives them a sense of pride in their team.
“We know that Simply Kitchens’ company logo is green so that is why we chose green for the goalie’s kit.
“I’m very proud when I see them out on the pitch in their kit. I think they look the smartest team in the DJM at the minute and we’d like to say a big thank you to Simply Kitchens for backing the team.”
Nathan Hopper, managing director of Simply Kitchens, said: “We are delighted to be sponsors of Saltash Utd Under 12s. I find it quite rewarding to be able to give something back.
“One of the parents approached me as the team were struggling to secure sponsorship. The team only started last year and they were all wearing hand-me-down kits. Now we’ve paid for a new kit for the whole team.
“We went to deliver the kits recently and they are a lovely bunch of lads. Every single one of them came up and shook my hand to say thank you.
“We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on their progress this season and I’m hoping to get to a couple of matches myself when I can.”
