Return of the Southwest Champions
Last weekend, Accelerate Trampoline and Gymnastics competed in the Southwest Championships; a competition that celebrates all levels and ages of the talent we have in the region, from Plymouth to Poole to Gloucester and Bristol.
It was a wonderful day combining Olympian Kirsty Way performing, with young gymnasts who were competing for the first time.
A team of nineteen Accelerate athletes travelled to Bath to take part and returned with a haul of medals and personal bests including four SW Champions, two silver medals and two bronze medals.
Head coach Jacob Turner said:
“This was the largest team we have entered so far into any competition, and I was so thrilled with their performances. My coaching team of myself, Charlotte Vickery and Owen Pitman worked hard all day to make sure the team were supported and able to perform to their best. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to make the day such a success.”
Accelerate trampoline and gymnastics was set up in lockdown and has a membership of almost 700 across their two units at Westpark and Willand and Blackbrook leisure centre, and after only four years, have developed their competition squad to include all ages and levels, including GBR silver medallist Jessica Vickery who is an inspiration to her younger team members.
The cub runs toddler drop-in sessions and offers classes in gymnastics, trampolining and double mini trampoline as well as cheer, dance and regular workshops.
Training at their new venue in Willand near Wellington, with its new rigging system and foam pit, Accelerate have already had visits from world champions and Olympic athletes making it one of the most exciting places to train in the Southwest.
