Plymouth City Council's Youth Service has just started recruiting Young Ambassadors for Summer Mix 2015.

Anyone from 16-25 years old can become an Ambassador and in return for all the hard work volunteers receive OCN qualifications, a programme of free training and get to attend a residential,  as well as other exciting trips!

This is an excellent volunteering opportunity for young people to support the Summer Mix programme by:

• Assisting tutors in running the courses
• Taking part in training
• Motivating and encouraging other young people on Summer Mix courses and activities
• Providing extra help to students with additional needs
• Representing Summer Mix and promote equal opportunities
• Taking part in evaluating the programme

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Public Health said “Last year our Ambassadors worked extremely hard supporting Summer Mix, from picking and trialling the courses to designing the brochure and promoting the programme at city wide events; they have done it all!”

Feedback from some of the 2014 Ambassadors included:

“Through the training I received with the Summer Mix programme, I feel I am now a more employable person, as I am now more confident; I can now deal with situations better by taking charge, this was through my leadership role throughout the Summer Mix programme and I am better able to help people on a daily basis in a mentor role in school/work”. (Rob Graham)

“Summer Mix has reassured me that I want to coach as a job; by doing this course it has given me a great advantage, as I now have much more experience, as I also will have a reference and certificate explaining this. I have learnt how to collaborate with others when doing an activity myself and how to socialise better with people I do not know. (Aaron Stansbury)

“I learnt a lot while volunteering on marine conservation as I learnt a lot about sea life and the careers that come with working in aquariums. I learnt a lot about the Art College as a whole and was able to help the young people. I also learnt how to deal with managing behaviour and talk in an appropriate way to young people and to ensure they know what they are supposed to be doing. I also learnt about treating everyone equally and ensuring everyone is included, I learnt about supporting those with additional needs.” (Megan White)
