Works starts on new memorial garden at Weston Mill

Work gets underway this week at Weston Mill Cemetery on a new memorial garden.

The new garden is designed around 250 solid granite memorial vaults. Each vault is designed to hold up to two sets of cremated remains and comes with a plaque that gives families a choice of personalised artwork to commemorate their loved one.

The garden is an expansion of the range of onsite memorials currently available at Weston Mill and aims to provide a tranquil area for reflection and remembrance within the cemetery.

Councillor Mike Leaves, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and the Environment said: “This new memorial garden will bring Weston Mill in line with our Efford site, improve our memorial offerings and widen the choice available for families when they are looking for a suitable final resting place for loved ones cremated remains.”

The new memorial garden is being installed on an unused section of the cemetery that overlooks the cemetery to the west providing a lovely location for reflection and remembrance.

The first phase of the garden which involves preparing the ground and the first section of installation should be finished by the end of September this year and advance orders will be taken from August. The second and third phases will be completed by end of summer 2018.
