Families have been leaving permanent footprints to follow as part of some lovely improvements being made to Kinterbury Creek.

Parents and toddlers from TamarFolk Children’s Centre have had their footsteps cast in concrete as unique markers to the site of the new look playground for the creek at Barne Barton.

New equipment is to be installed at the play area including swings, rock ’n bowl seating, climbing net and large mosaic seating blocks (designed and being built with community).

The new play area is not the only improvement being made, thanks to the Council’s Stepping Stone to nature team. Across the meadow, play features with a distinctly natural theme are appearing including large boulders to climb, balancing logs, a large wood crab sculpture for sitting and climbing, large door with wildlife panels leading to the path to the foreshore, and totems to mark the entrance to the park.

Councillor Brian Vincent Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “This area has been transformed in recent years from a slightly unloved corner of the city into a place people are enjoying once more and families are learning about nature on the Tamar as well as getting some fresh air.

“There are some wonderful ideas coming to life – the footsteps for instance – in years to come the toddlers who took part in creating this will be able to show their children the part they played in making the creek something special.”

Other improvements mad recently include a new 200 metre boundary fence behind Foulston Avenue funded by Plymouth Community Homes Money Tree Fund.

Native hedge including beech, blackthorn, hazel, hawthorn have been planted with residents, Riverside Primary School children and community groups, including the Friends of Kinterbury Creek, TamarFolk Children’s Centres, St Budeaux Scouts and Barne Barton youth group.
