Travel delays likely in Plymouth this weekend
This weekend (Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September) will see thousands of new students descend on Plymouth for the first time, arriving at university and moving into their new home in student halls and residences.
With the large numbers of visitors to the city, there is likely to be some disruption to travel, particularly in the City Centre, and Mutley and Greenbank areas. With the anticipated congestion we would urge visitors to the city to follow directions and instructions supplied by the University. We also urge anyone who is likely to be commuting into the city, to leave earlier to avoid potential delays and to plan alternative routes to work.
University stewards and police will on hand to provide advice and guidance on Friday and throughout the weekend.
Inspector Darren Green said: "We are really looking forward to welcoming so many visitors and new students to Plymouth, but we also would like to thank local neighbourhoods and commuters for their patience and understanding regarding potential delays and slower travel times during this short period."
