The National Trust team at Plym Valley has been asked by Torbridge High School to help their students achieve as many of the Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you're 11 ¾’  in one week.

This week, fifteen students are working with rangers from Wembury, Lydford and the Plym Valley, as well as Devon Wildlife, to achieve a variety of tasks from the list.

Steph Rodgers, National Trust Community Engagement Officer says: “The ‘50 things campaign’ is a great way for our rangers to engage with children and families in a fun way that encourages them to get outdoors and enjoying a range of activities on the hundreds of acres of accessible land owned and conserved by National Trust.  All of the tasks on the 50 things campaign are free to do.”

Following last year’s success, the list of 50 outdoors adventures has been updated for 2013. Fifteen new experiences were suggested by children across the country over the 2012 summer holidays, including star gazing and daisy chain making. The aim of the campaign is to recognise that many children today are not engaging with the outdoors and, therefore, are not in touch with the countryside or the wonderful opportunities for play and learning that it offers.

Whilst the students are at Wembury beach they will be working with the ranger and Devon Wildlife trust to achieve the rock pooling sticker; at Plym Valley they will do a variety of tasks such as climbing trees and skimming stones; and at Lydford Gorge they will complete some bush craft activities from the list.
