Plymouth-based youth charity The Zone has been awarded £500 from Taylor Wimpey after being announced as the winner of the homebuilder’s community donation competition. Residents from in and around Sherford were invited to vote for a local good cause to receive a helping hand from Taylor Wimpey, with The Zone receiving the most nominations. The runners up were Jeremiah’s Journey and St Luke’s Hospice, which each received £100.

Founded in 1990, The Zone has provided free and confidential information and support to young people in Plymouth for almost 30 years. Their drop-in service is available six days a week and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers that offer emotional support as well as information surrounding housing, sexual health and mental wellbeing.

Melissa Langton, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “At Taylor Wimpey, we’re really proud of our commitment to giving back to the local communities in which we build. We’re absolutely delighted to announce The Zone as the winner of our community competition. We’re so pleased that the community got behind the competition and placed their votes to support the local causes we nominated.”

Mike Jarman, Chairman of The Zone said: “When we were nominated for Taylor Wimpey’s community competition, we were absolutely delighted and it was even more of an honour to be announced as the winner. The work that we do at The Zone is hugely helped by kind donations such as this one.”
