Special feline lady seeking allergy-safe forever home
Little Phoebe wants nothing more for 2023 than a loving home to call her own. She is beautiful, intelligent and friendly – but sadly, Phoebe suffers from asthma.
Often triggered by dusty environments, asthma causes airways to become inflamed and can make breathing difficult. An asthma attack can be extremely serious, even life-threatening, and much like people, other animals can be sufferers.
Phoebe is one such animal. She is a pretty, seven-year-old, calico cat who is currently being cared for by a Blue Cross foster carer in Devon.
Blue Cross, a UK animal welfare charity was established back in 1897. The charity provides veterinary care, behavioural expertise, and an adoption service for animals in need.
The Charity’s Devon Rehoming and Advice Unit offers vital support and advice to pet owners in the area and works to find homeless pets new families. Pets are placed in foster care while loving new homes are found for them. Phoebe is currently fostered by one the Devon Unit’s volunteer carers.
Treatment for asthma in cats varies, and can change over time, so Phoebe’s new human companion will need to be prepared to keep on top of Phoebe’s healthcare needs – and be someone who keeps a dust-free home.
The rewards can be amazing though. Blue Cross Animal Welfare Assistant, Michele James explains:
“Phoebe is a lovely cat. She is really friendly and a bit of a homebody who likes nothing more than a game with a feather wand-toy, and then snuggling down for a rest in her cosy bed.
“Taking care of any animal with a chronic condition is a big commitment though and must be undertaken seriously. It can also reap huge emotional benefits. The relationship between the human and animal companion is – by necessity – a close one, and a strong bond often forms that makes for great companionship.
“Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Phoebe will have a life-long friend, but we must be sure that they are the right person, which is why poor Phoebe has been in care for such a long time. She has been with Blue Cross for over three months. We would love to see her settled into a forever home soon.”
