South Devon College A level students celebrating today
South Devon College A level students are celebrating their exam results today with a 99.3% overall pass rate.
This year sees the continuation of the College’s history of high pass rates with 72% of students achieving an A*- C grade.
The College is celebrating 100% high grade achievement across a broad mix of subjects including, maths, physics, film studies and computer science.
Students are also celebrating excellent AS Level results today and looking forward to progressing onto their second year of A Level study at South Devon College in September.
Matthew Harbour, Vice Principal and Deputy CEO, said;
“We are delighted with this year’s results. All our students have worked incredibly hard to achieve their A level results with many securing places in top universities both locally and further afield.
“These results reflect our recent Ofsted inspection where the College was awarded Outstanding for our education programmes for young people, which includes A levels, T Levels and GCSEs at South Devon High School. Inspectors commended staff on their high expectations for their students and today is proof of how hard everyone has worked.”
Jagoda Janiszewska from Paignton is celebrating today as she achieved A grades in all her subjects, chemistry, physics and maths.
The 18 year old is taking a gap year before going to Exeter University to study archaeology with forensic science.
“I am so happy and I will be having a little party later with some friends to celebrate.”
Taven Spirit from Paignton is also delighted with her exam results and can now pursue her career aspirations to be a detective.
The 18 year old took A level business, law, sociology and criminology (B,B,B, B) and is going on to study Criminology at University Centre South Devon.
“I am so happy as I was so nervous this morning and I was so worried about my grades and now I’ve got into university. I put in a lot of work and studied a lot of past papers and that helped me.”
Emily Hunger, an exchange student from Germany, is also celebrating today. She took A level geography, history and politics (B, B, B).
The 18 year old from Frankfurt was on a student placement at South Devon College and enjoyed it so much decided to stay on for her second year to finish her A levels.
“I absolutely loved studying at South Devon College. The relationship with the teachers is very different compared to Germany, teachers in the UK are more supportive and they really want you to do well, which was super nice to see. The learning environment at SDC also enabled me to do a lot of independent revision (especially for my coursework, which I got very high marks in). I got a lot of unique opportunities, like a visit to the House of Parliament with my Politics class, which was definitely a highlight.”
Emily says she doesn’t plan to go to university in the UK but can see herself living here in the future.
Recovering from long covid meant that 19 year old Dylan Eccles had to work extra hard to achieve his A level grades.
But the hard work has paid off as he achieved geography, biology, chemistry, Epq (extended project qualification) (CCC) and he’s going to Plymouth University to study Zoology.
“I used to go to the zoo a lot as a kid and I work there now and it’s always something I’ve wanted to do as I’ve always been interested in animals.”
Dylan plans to do a Master’s degree and then move abroad to do conservation work.
