With less than a month to go Plymouth people who want their vote to be counted in this year’s local and European parliamentary elections are reminded to sign up for the electoral register and secure their vote.

Tuesday 6 May is the deadline for registrations with the elections taking place on Thursday 22 May.

People who are not registered will not be able to vote and the Council are urging people to register even if they are unsure they will be voting on the day.

The Council sent out voter registration forms to every household last year asking local residents to confirm their details.

Tracey Lee, Returning Officer said, “Everyone in the city has the right to have their say and make a difference to the decisions that are made for the city. However, if you are not registered to vote, you in effect, lose your voice and therefore, it’s really important that everyone registers to vote as the first step in the voting process.

“If you have recently moved to the area, or moved house make sure that you register at your new address otherwise you won’t be able to vote”.

Anyone who hasn’t yet registered and needs a registration form, or wants to request a postal or proxy vote can contact the Council’s Electoral Registration Service on 01752 304866 or 304936 or email ero@plymouth.gov.uk. The service can also be contacted for anyone needed to check if they are already registered.

Alternatively drop into the Civic Centre reception or visit the website www.plymouth.gov.uk/elections. If you’re a member of the Armed Forces, or the husband, wife or civil partner of someone in the Armed Forces visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/armedforces.
