Resurfacing works at Postbridge Visitor Centre car park

The car park at Postbridge Visitor Centre will close for five days for essential resurfacing works. 

Work starts on Monday 21 September and is scheduled to finish on Friday 25 September. 

The visitor centre and public toilets will remain open. While works take place people should find alternative car parks in the area.  

The work is needed to keep the heavily used car park maintained to a safe condition. There will be barriers at the entrance and signs letting people know it is closed for a short time. 

More than 135,000 people visit the Postbridge area each year with 58,000 using the visitor centre. The area is very popular with coach tours, including overseas operators. 

The resurfacing works follow a major refurbishment programme to double the size of Postbridge Visitor Centre. 

The new look, fully accessible energy-efficient building opened last month following a £500,000 extension. It features the latest technology to bring history to life in amazing detail, giving people a unique and special experience, and celebrating Dartmoor’s remarkable Bronze Age heritage.

Linking with the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan and the 2019 National Landscapes Review, the centre revamp is part of Dartmoor National Park Authority’s long-term plan to connect people with Dartmoor’s incredible history, heritage and habitats. 

The Authority secured £500,000 from the Rural Development Programme for England to fund the building works; this helped to expand on the already improved offer at Postbridge funded, in part, through the National Lottery Heritage Fund Landscape Partnership, Moor than meets the eye [MTMTE].

All National Park visitor centres are Covid-secure and are accredited to Visit Britain’s ‘We’re Good to Go’ standard meaning people can be assured they are following the latest public health guidance.
