RGB Building Supplies has selected the finalists for its next first Surprise Supplies giveaway and it’s now down to the public to choose two winners to receive £1,000 worth of building materials each.

RGB had invited schools, charities and groups from across the region that had supported communities throughout the pandemic to get in touch and explain how a donation would help.

The finalists are 4FS Youth Dance in St Austell, Launceston Community Hospital, Made-Well in Hatherleigh, and Turning Heads in Torbay.

4FS Youth Dance works with children and families in St Austell to provide dance lessons and youth support. To ensure the young people could still enjoy lessons, the group moved their dance provision to online. They also provided health and well-being sessions and worked with a dedicated youth worker to help young people who were struggling with their mental health. The group is renovating three former retail units in the town centre, which will become its new base, and it would use the £1,000 to purchase materials.

Launceston Community Hospital has launched a Meaningful Activities programme to help with patient well-being. Patients are able to take part in various activities including crafts, games, upcycling projects and physiotherapy. The initiative is currently in a trial period so the hospital is having to source materials. The £1,000 would be used to purchase supplies to help with its gardening and decorating activities.

Made-Well provides purposeful and positive day opportunities for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health issues. Activities include horticulture, cookery, animal care, therapeutic arts, and countryside management, and it encourages full participation irrespective of age, background, qualifications, training or ability. To ensure those it supports did not suffer during the pandemic, Made-Well continued to provide its services, and delivered meals to those who were isolating. It is hoping to transform its outdoor area and would use the £1,000 to fund supplies.

Turning Heads works with people who have learning difficulties, are homeless or are long-term unemployed and helps them to develop skills, find employment, gain qualifications and work experience, and increase social opportunity and well-being. Throughout the pandemic, it supplied recipe boxes to supported living homes to help ensure no one went without. The organisation is renovating The Windmill Centre in Hele where the community will be able to learn new skills, and would use the £1,000 to purchase materials.

Kevin Fenlon, CEO of RGB, commented:

“There have been many groups that did so much to support people throughout the pandemic and we’re delighted to be able to give something back. We’d like to encourage people to get involved and vote for who they would like to receive £1,000 to spend at their local RGB branch.”

The vote will take place between Monday 16th August and 8am on Monday 30th August. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted.

The two finalists that receive the most votes will receive £1,000 each to spend at their local RGB branch.
