An internationally renowned researcher and innovator has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Business at Plymouth University.

Professor Nikolaos Tzokas joins Plymouth from the University of East Anglia, where he served as the Head of the Norwich Business School and Associate Dean for Research, Enterprise and Engagement for the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2004 to 2010.

Leading a Faculty which incorporates the Plymouth Business School, Plymouth Graduate School of Management, School of Law, School of Tourism and Hospitality and the School of Government, he will take up his post in March 2014.

Professor Tzokas said: “I am privileged to have been provided the opportunity to lead a dynamic Faculty within a University with a clear strategic vision, enviable partnerships and an enterprising approach with its students, people and wider stakeholders. With the help of colleagues, I am confident we can sustain and further enhance the upward trajectory of the Faculty. I look forward to supporting a Faculty-wide research and learning environment emphasising the drive for distinction among our students and staff in all the Schools of the Faculty of Business."

Professor Tzokas, who is married with two children, has previously worked at the universities of Stirling and Strathclyde, having studied at the Athens University of Economics and Business, completing his PhD in Management at the University of Bath. He is actively involved with the European Foundation for Management Development, and is an international ambassador at the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

A Professor of Marketing, he has been instrumental in the development of several innovative, postgraduate programmes, while his research – which covers new product development, adoption and diffusion of innovation, relationship marketing and knowledge management – has been published in respected international journals.

The Faculty of Business has a track record of producing graduates who are currently excelling in the fields of business, finance, tourism and law, with many going on to achieve notable successes having established their own companies.

Professor Wendy Purcell, Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University, said: “The Faculty of Business is at the core of our enterprise mission and transforming lives through education and research.

"We want to continue connecting deeply with the businesses and communities we serve on a global stage and the Faculty is a conduit for our engagement. As such, we are delighted to welcome Professor Nikolaos Tzokas to lead the next stage of our journey.

"He is a highly experienced and established business academic with strong credentials in building global partnerships and networks. He is also deeply committed to driving the student experience and world class research, both creating and supporting the business leaders of the future.”
