Plymouth man takes on 20th half marathon
Steve Turner, IT Manager, aged 49 from Plymouth, is to take on his record breaking 20th consecutive run at Plymouth’s Half Marathon on Sunday 19th April 2015. Steve has participated in the popular event every year since 1995, clocking up an impressive 262 half marathon miles in Plymouth alone!
Each year Steve chooses a different charity initiative to run for, including Hugs4Henry in 2014, and local children’s charity Ellie’s Haven in 2013, where together with colleagues, he raised over £9,500. This year he hopes to continue his fantastic fundraising efforts for local charity POOCH, Plymouth Oncology Outpatients and Chemotherapy.
Steve said: “Plymouth’s Half Marathon is always a staple event in my diary, and to think it was now twenty years ago that I first ran the race is actually quite astonishing! I take part in lots of races throughout the year, but Plymouth always remains my favourite. I have seen it continue to grow over the last twenty years that I have taken part, but it has managed to maintain its friendly atmosphere. It’s also great to do a home run, where I can just walk to the start line!”
Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing and Commercial at GO2, said: "Steve’s ongoing dedication to Plymouth’s Half Marathon is the perfect example of why the city of Plymouth remains one of the most established running communities in the South West. Every year we see an increasing number of new runners taking on the challenge, which is really promising for the future. You never know, one of our newbies for 2015 may be breaking Steve’s record in another twenty years to come!”
Now heading into its 22nd year, Plymouth’s Half Marathon is known for its spectacular scenery, fantastic spectator support and friendly atmosphere. The race will start in style on the Hoe, before taking in a stunning and varied course that boasts coastal views, the charming Barbican harbour, and even the beautiful National Trust grounds of Saltram Park.
The 13.1 mile journey will then bring you back to the Hoe, where you can expect thousands of supporters waiting to cheer you across the finish line!
