A raffle held at Plymouth City Council’s Celebrating Excellence in Care event raised £877 for charity.

Members of the Council’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Team, along with Councillor Lynda Bowyer, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care for Plymouth City Council, presented the cheque to the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund at Derriford Hospital. In addition to presenting the cheque, they also had the chance to see the wonderful sensory room which has been developed from previous fundraising.

Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader at Derriford Hospital, said: “Children’s Happy Hospital Fund would like to thank Plymouth City Council for their support whilst celebrating excellence in care over the last year.

“Our aim is to enhance the facilities on the children’s wards and provide a child friendly environment for all that have to stay on level 12. It is fantastic that our charity has been chosen to benefit from the funds raised through the raffle and I would like to thank everyone who supported this event.”

The Celebrating Excellence event was held at the New Continental Hotel back in May and attended by 175 people, with representatives from across Plymouth’s care sector including residential and nursing care home staff, domiciliary care workers and a ‘people’s choice’ category which was voted for by the public.

Councillor Lynda Bowyer, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care for Plymouth City Council, said: “We are delighted that our Celebrating Excellence event has raised so much for the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund, which is a fantastic local cause.

“Due to the success of Celebrating Excellence we are hoping to make it an annual event, so watch this space!”
