Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Honiton has opened three exciting new exhibitions this spring.

The exhibitions highlight new work created by the winners of the gallery's biennial Open exhibition, and mark the 20th anniversary of Devon Artist Network.

The main gallery comes alive with the vivid paintings of THG Open Winner Sharon James. These large, strongly figurative artworks show vibrant scenes of domestic family life.  They are intimate moments, inviting the viewer to become part of it, as if we are one of the family.

Sidmouth-based photographer Kyle Baker won the THG Open's Best Emerging Artist prize and is exhibiting a collection of his seascapes and remarkable nightscapes featuring the aurora borealis.

In the Upper Gallery, Devon Artist Network (DAN) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a selection of work by key Devon makers. Each of the makers will be delivering workshops to local schools inspiring pupils to try traditional skills including woodwork, ceramics, embroidery and basket weaving.

The exhibitions are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm until 6 July. They are accompanied by a programme of workshops, events and talks including a talk by exhibiting artist, Sharon James on Saturday 8 June, 2pm.

Gemma Girvan, THG Curator, commented,

We had a brilliant launch event for our THG Open winners' and Devon Artist Network exhibitions. Visitors and art lovers came to enjoy the opening and hear the artists introduce their work.

We are thrilled with all the positive feedback we have received about the exhibitions and look forward to welcoming more visitors over the coming weeks.

Please join us on Saturday 8 June for what promises to be a fascinating talk by our exhibiting artist Sharon James.
