Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died following a collision with a car in Plymouth.

The collision involving a blue Suzuki GSXR and a silver Mercedes C230 happened at 4.20pm on Tuesday 20 October on Weston Mill Drive, the St Budeaux bypass.

The 46-year-old male motorcycle rider was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth, where he later died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The rider’s family have been informed and he has been formally identified as Andrew Lapthorn, from Plymouth.

The 76-year-old car driver, also from the Plymouth area, was uninjured and is being treated as a witness.

The road was closed for around five hours while specialist officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Highways assisted with the road closures and diversions were put in place.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit, based in Crownhill, are carrying out an investigation and are keen to speak to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

Witnesses are asked to contact Serious Collisions Unit Investigator Alan Kennedy or Sergeant Steve Walker by calling 101 or emailing 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference 547 of 20/10/15.
