Incredible Stone Balancing Artist to rock up at Devon Garden Festival

Internationally renowned stone balancing artist, Adrian Gray, will be demonstrating the astonishing art of stone balancing at Toby’s Garden Festival on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 April.

The stone balancing pioneer, who C4's Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud calls the 'stone whisperer', has spent the last 23 years of his life exploring the fine art of balance in any and all types of rock. Using carefully selected weathered stones, he creates balanced sculptures that range in size from desktop balances to monumental 6m installations which have been sited in public and private spaces across the world.

His work has evolved over time, but the predominant feature remains the fleeting beauty and seemingly impossible nature of balance.

Critics have likened Adrian’s work, and the dramatic effect it has on his audience, to the power and presence of the ancient menhirs and stone circles that stud the landscape in which Adrian lives and works at Axminster in Devon.

Previous exhibitions include Equipoise at the Art Trove gallery, the Chaumont Garden festival and one-man shows in Singapore and Rococo Garden.

Adrian has many fans among the art world, media and leading horticultural institutions, including the Royal Horticultural Society. He counts TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall among his many clients, and Kevin McCloud described him as ‘the stone whisperer’ after showcasing a crane-balanced piece on Channel 4’s Grand Designs.
