Children's Hospice South West has received a donation from a leading housebuilder.

The charity which runs three hospices across the South West region – Little Bridge House in Devon, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall – has received £3,000 from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.

The donation is part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative, which donates up to £750,000 a year to good local causes and organisations across Great Britain.

The organisation supports families and provides incredible hospice care including respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end-of-life care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

The donation has been given as part of the organisation’s fundraising for its Ride for Precious Lives 2023 which takes place between Friday 7th and Sunday 9th July, and will see over 100 people cycle over 200 miles visiting every hospice in the region.

The Team Ride aims to raise awareness and vital funds for children and young people living with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West, with Persimmon entering a team for the ride alongside contractors from Firmacore Limited, Idverde and MP Plastering Limited.

Commenting on the donation, Tamara Downes, Head of Fundraising at Children’s Hospice South West, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon continue its incredible support for local charity Children’s Hospice South West.

“The Severn Valley business has a team taking part in this year’s Ride for Precious Lives event which takes in all three of the hospices across the South West region in a three day cycle ride, cycling over 200 miles.

“I am so very grateful as part of this fundraising effort we have been chosen by Persimmon Homes Severn Valley in the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative. This could fund 150 hours of vital care, which is essential to the families we support.

“We have over 100 people signed up to ride and we can’t wait for what promises to be another heart-warming weekend raising vital funds for children and young people with life limiting conditions.”

Paul Moody, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “Our Community Champions initiative is all about supporting the communities and people where we build new homes, and we couldn’t have found a more fitting recipient.

“Children’s Hospice South West provides an outstanding service in Somerset and right across the region, supporting so many families and children during incredibly difficult times.

“The hospice and staff places children and families at the centre of the organisation and promotes a strong, caring community environment characterised by a culture of sensitivity, trust, consideration and respect for others.

“On behalf of Persimmon, I’d like to wish Josh, Rob, our contractors from Firmacore Limited, Idverde and MP Plastering Limited the very best for next month’s cycle as we continue our proud, longstanding partnership and support for the Children’s Hospice South West.”
