Seven 14-year-old boys from a school in Wiltshire have been rescued by helicopter after getting lost on Dartmoor while practicing for the Ten Tors challenge.

The teenagers were located safe and well by the police helicopter from Exeter after losing their way in low cloud. They were found on the moor near Great Kneeset having called police for assistance at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday (21 April).

Police have praised the boys for sensibly stopping after realising they had become lost and were late to meet with their teachers.

The helicopter made two trips to lift the boys with their kit to Okehampton military camp where they met up with teachers.

The Ten Tors challenge takes place over the weekend of 11th and 12th May this year. It is organised by the Army and many schools, colleges and other organisations in the region and beyond provide the opportunity for students to take part.
