Friendship across the ocean as Plymouth Oddfellows receive a visit from a Canadian Oddfellow
A visitor from Canada was recently welcomed at a meeting of Pride of the West with Saint Andrews Lodge which meets in St. Budeaux, Plymouth.
Roger Baker, a member of Aurora Lodge number 148 of the Grand Lodge of Ontario Independent Order of Odd Fellows paid a visit to the Plymouth Lodge and was warmly welcomed.
Roger was a Plymouthian but left the city in 1968 and lives in Keswick which is situated in Cook’s Bay on Lake Simcoe, some 45 miles north of Toronto in Ontario, Canada.
Returning to Plymouth to visit his sister who lives here gave him the opportunity to meet local members of the Oddfellows Friendly Society who were fascinated to learn about the vast size of Canada.
After the formal business of the Lodge had been concluded in which Roger fully participated and which touched on welfare, charitable and financial matters, an exchange of gifts took place and then he joined members for lunch.
Speaking during the visit, longstanding member Sister Ann Harper, a Past Provincial Grand Master said, “We are very pleased to warmly welcome Roger who visits us from Canada. The Oddfellows is a great fraternal organisation and this shows that our hand of friendship, or should I say links thinking of our three linked emblem, has a global reach.”
Meeting for a variety of activities in Plymouth, Truro, Redruth and other locations and with all the benefits of a well-established friendly society founded in 1810, the Oddfellows ALWAYS welcomes new members of ALL ages and ALL genders.
