Free cream tea for Plymouth carers
Plymouth Central Library is celebrating Carers Week with a special event on Tuesday 10 June, which will include advice and information for carers, a free cream tea and pampering sessions.
Carers Week is a UK-wide annual awareness campaign that aims to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for. Every day, 6,000 people in the UK take on a new caring role.
The event at the Central Library, which will run from 1pm to 4pm, is being organised in partnership with the Plymouth Carers Forum, who will be on hand to offer advice and information about local carers’ support services.
Hair and beauty students from City College Plymouth will be providing free pampering sessions, including mini manicures and simple hair styling.
Councillor Ian Tuffin, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: "Up and down the UK there are 6.5 million people caring unpaid for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend. We’re delighted to be supporting Carers Week with this event, which will give people a chance to find out about the books and resources available in our libraries, as well as a pilot scheme to offer carers health and wellbeing check-ups in some GP practices in Plymouth.”
The Council’s library service provides information on a range of health, wellbeing and social care issues and services. This includes a selection of health titles in all libraries and staff trained to help you find good quality health information and support. The carers’ drop-in event will run from 1pm to 4pm and anyone who isn’t yet a library member can join for free on the day. For more information call 01752 305900 or email library@plymouth.gov.uk.
