Firefighters tackle builders' yard blaze

Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a builders' yard in Plymouth this afternoon.

Two appliances from Camelshead and Crownhill were mobilised to reports of a fire in a builders' yard on Wingfield Road, Stoke.

On arrival crews reported smoke issuing and requested an additional appliance to attend from Crownhill.

Cylinders were also suspected to be involved, one ground monitor and one jet were in use.

1.59pm: Crews requested a fourth appliance from Greenbank to attend and the Incident Command Unit from Totnes was also mobilised. Four breathing apparatus and three main jets were in use, plus one ground monitor.

2.16pm: Breathing Apparatus wearers were increased to six. Police were also in attendance for traffic duties and Ambulance were also in attendance.

3.02pm: The fire invovles first, second floors and the roof. Crews are now using 4 Breathing Apparatus, one hose reel, four Attack Jets, two short extension ladders, and a 10.5m ladder.

3.55pm: This incident will now be scaled down to 2 pumps and also the Aerial Ladder Platform from Crownhill. 1 hose reel jet, 1 main jet, and 1 ground monitor are still in use. A thermal imaging camera was also in use.

4.27pm: Building control officer requested for unstable building, and relief crews.

5.56pm: Ariel platform in use stripping away corner of roof to expose burning materials, crews using one hose reel jet and small tools.

6.24pm: Building control officer in attendance.

The Environment Agency has been informed of this incident.

Plymouth residents have been asked by police to keep windows closed while the fire sevice tackles the blaze.

Police are assisting with road closures and informing residents to keep windows closed due to the smoke in the air.

Raynham Road, Wingfield Way and Penlee Road are all closed.

Police say it's not clear if anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.
