Devon hotel launches Christmas charity campaign to support its local community
Christmas cheer will be spread to children, families and elderly residents in Devon as part of a festive campaign launched by a local hotel.
Bovey Castle has launched its ‘Giving Back’ initiative to support good causes in the area and to help people in need in the community over the Christmas period.
As part of the campaign, the hotel will donate food to Moretonhampstead Community Fridge, which is based outside the Community Club on Court Street in the town.
The fridge is open to all and is stocked with food from a variety of places, with Bovey Castle committing to donate items over the Christmas period to support those in the local area who can put it to good use.
The hotel’s Christmas campaign will also see it donate hampers filled with festive treats to residents at Coppelia House care home, also on Court Street, and donate a Christmas present to the national Cash for Kids charity for every child that stays at the hotel on a Christmas package.
Additionally, for every room booked on a package at Christmas and New Year, Bovey Castle will plant a tree in its grounds to offset the carbon footprint of guests staying over the festive period.
Dean Gunston, General Manager of Bovey Castle, in Dartmoor National Park, North Bovey, said: “Christmas is a time to think of others so when we decided to put plans in place for our Giving Back campaign this year, we wanted to support as many good causes close to us as possible.
“Food is a big part of the offering here at Bovey Castle and we are committed to sustainability, which is why we thought it was a great opportunity to support Moretonhampstead Community Fridge’s fantastic work by donating produce over the busy Christmas period.
“We also welcome lots of families with children at Bovey Castle over Christmas, and wanted to do something to help disadvantaged children and young people through the Cash For Kids’ Mission Christmas appeal to make sure they wake up to a present on Christmas day.
“We’ll be collating these gifts – including the hampers for Coppelia House – throughout December and if anybody wants to support the campaign they are welcome to come and donate items at the hotel too.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the campaign at Bovey Castle is asked to do so before December 17.
For members of the public looking to contribute to the Giving Back appeal, items can include a range of festive treats for the care home hampers or any suitable presents for children aged three-18 years for those who wish to contribute to the Cash For Kids appeal.
Bovey Castle is a 5 Red Star hotel owned by luxury hotel group The Eden Hotel Collection, offering 60 bedrooms throughout the historic manor, and 22 self-catering country lodges.
It also has two on-site restaurants The Great Western Grill and Smith’s Brasserie, and activities for adults and families including falconry, archery and 4x4 off-road driving.
Its Giving Back campaign is linked to its Christmas package, which includes a three-night stay from December 24 and has limited availability remaining.
