Competitions call on Devon's schoolchildren to capture the countryside in pictures and words

The Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England has launched its 2019 art and writing competitions for primary schoolchildren - calling on them to use their creativity to capture Devon's coast and countryside.

CPRE Devon's two children's competitions are a fun way to encourage outdoor learning and help youngsters engage with and enjoy the great outdoors. There's something for every child who's prepared to put pen to paper, either to create a piece of artwork or a short piece of writing.

Last year the charity received some fantastic entries from right across the county from girls and boys in KS1 and KS2, who had captured their favourite Devon landscape on paper. Pencils, paints and sticking paste were all put to use to create artworks which captured the beauty and variety of Devon’s natural environment.

The competitions are simple to enter and there are prizes for individual winners as well as their school, including a £200 prize towards outdoor learning initiatives for the Best Overall School. Each child who enters also wins a badge featuring CPRE Devon’s Countryside Ambassador, Barney the Bull.

For the art competition, teachers can contact CPRE Devon for a leaflet with full details of how to enter. For the writing competition, CPRE Devon has produced a fun postcard with space to fill in the entry on the back. It couldn't be simpler!
