Community Police Cadets Passing Out Parade & Awards Ceremony
Young police cadets aged between 13 and 18 attended the Plymouth East Community Police Cadet passing out parade on 6 March.
The parade recognises the completion of a 10 week induction programme and their hard work and commitment over the previous twelve months.
With a fantastic turnout of almost 140 people, guests included Deputy Lord Mayor Nigel Churchill, High Sheriff of Devon John Lee OBE, Gary Streeter MP, Dale Durante from Devon & Somerset Fire Service, Tony Hogg the Police & Crime Commissioner, Plymouth Police Commander Chief Superintendent Andy Boulting, local councillors and representatives of community groups from both Plympton and Plymstock, as well as friends and family of the young cadets.
The hard work and commitment of the cadets was also recognised, with a presentation of certificates and awards.
Cadet Jack Castell received the Plympton Community Council shield, in recognition of his commitment to the community, having assisted with ten different neighbourhood and crime prevention events.
Cadet Amelia Oke was awarded ‘Most Improved Cadet’ and Melissa Temlett the received the prestigious award of ‘Best Cadet 2014’.
Volunteers Kirstie Swift, Alex Druce, Abi Biscoe and Sam Heys were also recognised for giving up their own time to assist with the cadets.
As well as receiving award, the evening included an impressive showcase, with the cadets marching behind the Plymouth Pipes and Drums band, and Drill Master Cadet George Felwick. Following the march, the cadets were presented for inspection by Chief Superintendent Andy Boulting, and also swore an oath to continue good citizenship and commitment to their local communities.
Unit leaders PCSOs Elaine Hesketh and Lee Edmunds said: "The Community Police Cadet scheme is fantastic way to engage with young people, giving them many opportunities to develop important life skills, and promoting positive life choices, helping them to understand how they influence the community and the important services.
"We are so proud of how far these cadets have come over the past twelve months and their continued commitment making the local community a better place to live for everyone.
"We also actively encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved, to get in contact."
