Christmas trees to remember loved ones

Christmas trees have been placed in the waiting rooms of both Weston Mill and Efford Cemeteries, for members of the public to decorate with messages on special tags to remember friends and family.

The trees proved very popular last year with over 100 messages to loved ones greatly missed over the festive period.

A Christmas tree has also been placed in the Baby Garden in Weston Mill Cemetery.

The tree has been provided in partnership with baby bereavement charity Little Things & Co to offer an opportunity for remembrance at a very difficult time of year.

Members of the public can have a personalised bauble placed on the tree, which will remain in place throughout the festive period.

The Baby Garden was established in 1984 as a separate area for families who had lost a baby and was designed as a place for quiet contemplation.

This tree is in addition to the Forget Me Not Wall which opened in October, where families are able to write messages for their baby on a special memory board.

Councillor Sally Haydon, Cabinet member for Customer Focus and Community Safety said: “Christmas is a hard time for many people, particularly when dealing with loss. It is truly our pleasure to provide these trees to give some sense of comfort to bereaved families.”
