Local homebuilder Barratt Homes has demonstrated their commitment to giving back to the community by volunteering for childhood cancer charity, Little Hero.

Over the course of two days, a dedicated team of twelve volunteers rolled up their sleeves and embarked on a transformative project at Little Hero’s respite lodge, Will’s Woodland near Tiverton.

Will’s Woodland was established as a haven for families affected by childhood cancer, providing a safe space away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and many family holiday destinations. However, the lodge faced a significant challenge: its hot tub remained largely inaccessible due to the lack of a proper pathway. The only route to the hot tub was over a muddy field.

John from Little Hero joined forces with the Barratt Homes volunteer team to complete the project. The transformation began with the removal of the top layer of soil, with volunteers digging out the earth to lay the groundwork for the path. Next, they edged the path and installed a weed membrane. On top they placed ash stepping slabs sourced from the Little Hero site. To complete the project, volunteers laid mulch which had been donated by local supplier, SW Fencing & Landscaping Ltd.

Now the path is complete, families have a safe route to unwind amidst the trees of Will’s Woodland.

Nicki Reid, Sales Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes, said: "We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to support Little Hero's amazing work. Our volunteers had a fantastic time working together to make a real difference in the lives of these brave children and their families. We hope that this small contribution will bring joy and comfort to those who visit Will's Woodland."

John Rainsbury, Chair of Little Hero, said: "We are hugely grateful to Barratt Homes for their generosity and hard work. Their efforts will enhance the experience for our families and allow them to focus on making memories together, rather than struggling with muddy terrain. We are proud to have such wonderful partners supporting our cause."
