Police in Plymouth are appealing for witnesses after a man was found seriously injured in the road in the early hours of Thursday 10 September.

A local man in his 40s was found with serious head injuries on Old Wolseley Road at around 2.10am.

A member of the public saw him lying in the road between the chip shop and Saltash passage, at the junction with Foulston Avenue.

He was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers are trying to establish what happened to the man and whether he sustained his injuries as a result of a collision, assault or a fall.

They would like to speak to anyone who was travelling along Old Wolseley Road and saw the man lying in the road, saw anything unusual or was involved in an incident between 1.50am and 2.10am on Thursday 10 September.

Relevant CCTV footage is helping officers with their enquiries in identifying the driver of a car seen in the area at the time.

The road was closed while officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit carried out a forensic examination of the scene. It was reopened at around 3.50am.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or email 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk, quoting log 38 of 10 September.

Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111, or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
