£200,000 invested in new Plymouth store
Shoppers are flocking to a new £200,000 store opened in Plymouth recently by one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers.
Flooring Superstore say footfall at the store on the city’s Marsh Mills Retail Park has been particularly high since it opened its doors in the summer, with sales over 20% above the original target.
The retailer has put this down to people focusing on home improvements over the summer with uncertainty remaining over foreign holidays caused by Covid-19.
The 3,400 square feet store, which created four new jobs, was the 13th store opened by Flooring Superstore since April and part of the 25 targeted for opening in 2021. This will take the retailer’s total store count up to 50 across the UK.
In 2012, Flooring Superstore was purely an ecommerce retailer.
Flooring Superstore Regional Manager, Nathan Pritchard, said: “We are really pleased with the response from local people to our new store in Plymouth.
“We always open new stores with optimism as we know what we are offering is different to other retailers in our sector, but to have this validated with actual figures is fantastic.
“We’re now focused on building on this early success and making our own positive contribution to the local retail company.
So far in 2021, in addition to Cheltenham, Flooring Superstore has launched stores in Huddersfield, Doncaster, Newcastle, Norwich, Lincoln, Hull, Orpington, Basingstoke, Carlisle, Reading, Catford, Kidderminster, Plymouth, Preston, Glasgow and Southampton. A store in Leicester is due to open on 2nd October.
Nathan added: “We’re one of a handful of retailers which have been actively expanding over the last 18 months, despite everything the pandemic has thrown at us and store openings like Plymouth demonstrate we were correct in taking this approach.
“Being able to supply every type of flooring, such carpets, real wood, laminate and artificial grass, under one roof so people don’t need to shop around is definitely one of the key factors in the success; the other being able to sell this flooring at online pricing, reflecting our origins as an e-commerce retailer less than ten years ago.
“We will, of course, not be resting on our laurels and are focused on ensuring the experience people receive when they visit our stores is second to none, using interactive samples displays so people can visualise how flooring will look in their own home before they make a purchase.”
Flooring Superstore is now reaching out to local charities, voluntary organisations, or other good causes in the Plymouth area to see if they would benefit from donations of flooring for a particular project.
Donation requests can be emailed to marketing@connectionretail.co.uk
Flooring Superstore is also running a free, instore ‘Golden Ticket’ promotion. Anyone who comes into the store, regardless of whether they are buying flooring or not, will be invited to take one of 150 tickets. 145 of these tickets will have 15% off flooring, four will give people £250 to spend in-store and one golden ticket will give a lucky person £1,000 to spend on flooring ranges of their choice.
To date, the retailer has given away over £70,000 worth of flooring via the new store promotion.
