• 37% achieve 3 A/A*s or more
• 23 students achieve 10 A/A*s or more
Staff and students at Ivybridge Community College are celebrating today, after recording the best GCSE results in the college’s history.
The college saw a huge increase in those attaining five A*-C grades (including English and Maths), jumping from 66% in 2012 to an exceptional 77% this year.
“These results are remarkable,” said Ivybridge Community College Principal Rob Haring, “and they are a true reward for both the hard work of our students and the high-quality teaching at the college.
“Prior to these results coming out, 2012 was our best year on record, but we have far exceeded this with a further 11 per cent rise. These exceptional results clearly indicate the high standards of the college and demonstrate what our students are capable of. What’s more, it provides the grounding for them to move forward in confidence with their future learning and ultimately improve their life chances.”
In addition to the headline figure, the number of students gaining at least 3 As and A*s rose to 37% – another college record – demonstrating that those performing at the highest level has grown considerably too.
“We have achieved extraordinary results at all levels,” added Rob, “which includes many individual success stories too. 23 of our students achieved 10 As and A*s or more, and many others have achieved their own personal academic successes.”
Ivybridge Community College’s positive results buck the national trend, where the percentage of those receiving top grades dropped from 69.4 per cent last year to to 68.1 per cent this year. (Source: BBC online, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-23759165)
