Popeyes Plymouth opens to big crowds, music and bright sunshine
America’s famous fried chicken restaurant Popeyes® has opened in Plymouth! Its first day of business opened with a bang, with Mardi Gras style band ‘The Brass Funkeys’ welcoming customers to the new restaurant on a stunning spring day.
Dozens of people queued from early in the morning to be the first to get their hands on a free Chicken Sandwich at Popeyes Plymouth with this fantastically bright place opening its doors to the public.
Big smiles, bright colours and great food were the order of the day with customers delighted that their favourite first food store had landed in the city.
Popeyes had announced its arrival in Plymouth with a one-off art competition, inviting artists from Plymouth and beyond to create a piece of art for the new store, with the winner not only receiving £1000, but a year’s supply of its famous Chicken Sandwiches too.
Ben Aslett, an illustrator from the city, was the winner, with runners up prizes going to Lee Jackson and Sophie Phillips.
Ben said: “I like working with positive imagery, and that’s the Popeyes brand with all the nice colours so it was a natural match. I’m pretty happy to win and my wife Abi was screaming . I think she was more excited than I was as she loves the food!”
Popyeyes is open everyday 10.30am - 10pm.
