Spring into the new season at The Donkey Sanctuary
With spring just around the corner, The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is the perfect day out for all the family this half term.
The sanctuary is free to visit and is set in the heart of the East Devon countryside, overlooking the world-famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
For those looking to combine exercise and brainpower the ‘Stories of Sanctuary Spirit’ trail is a great place to start.
By following clues from their trail sheet, people will be able to uncover each spirit word and its matching donkey in the poems located around the sanctuary. Trail sheets cost £5 each and include a prize on completion.
To warm up, The Kitchen is the perfect place to take sanctuary. The award-winning restaurant has an extensive menu, using fresh, local seasonal produce.
To celebrate Shrove Tuesday (21 February), visitors will be able to enjoy traditional crepe pancakes, as well as delicious American stacks, in gluten free and dairy free options, available too.
Mouth-watering Sunday roast dinners, with vegan options, are now back on the menu, while one of the nation’s favourite dishes, fish and chips, is available every Friday. Both being available until the middle of March.
There are also hundreds of adorable donkeys to meet, as well as daily talks, engaging exhibits, scenic walks, a new children’s playpark and a maze to explore, while the Gift Shop is the ideal place to pick up a souvenir, safe in the knowledge that every purchase supports the work of the charity.
The Donkey Sanctuary is dog-friendly, and dogs on leads are welcome. There are miles of walkways to explore, and people may also bring them into The Kitchen restaurant.
The Donkey Sanctuary is open every day from 9am – 5pm.
