Shows
Faun, The Drum, 02 – 03 May 2023 (16+)
Ace is 22, trans, queer and sofa surfing – currently – just for now – only at the moment!
They’ve actually just sorted out sofa number 13.
To keep a sofa requires you to act small, smiling, and polite. But no one is perfect and eventually everyone messes up – which would be a lot easier for Ace if they weren’t also unexpectedly growing fluffy ears, and a tiny tail!
It turns out people pleasing has a price and there’s only one place left for Ace to go…
A celebration of queer community, full of heart, youth and pan pipes.
Godot is a Woman, The Drum, 15 – 17 June 2023
In 1953 a man wrote a play about waiting.
In 1988 he sued five women for trying to perform it.
In 2001 Madonna released What It Feels Like for a Girl.
It’s 2023 and we’re still waiting.
Since Samuel Beckett wrote Waiting for Godot, he and his estate have notoriously challenged – often legally – non-male companies that wish to perform it. A whip-smart interrogation of gender, authorial copyright and the cultural significance of Madonna’s 1989 album Like a Prayer, Silent Faces return with their trademark style of playful, political, physical theatre.
Jesus, Jane, Mother & Me, The Drum, 20 – 24 June 2023
Meet Daniel. He’s a strange boy, the ultimate super fan. His devotion to Jesus is slightly compromised by his obsession with Yorkshire diva, JANE!
His fanaticism is shared by his Mum until one day it to all goes horribly wrong. Has Daniel returned to seek revenge or heal old wounds? He just doesn’t know what to believe in anymore…
A darkly funny & moving drama from acclaimed playwright Philip Stokes about idolisation, growing older & the complex relationship between a son & a mother.
Join Daniel for a Mother’s Day like no other…
A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction, The Drum, 28 June – 01 July 2023
Theatre Royal Plymouth presents this darkly funny, life-affirming show which is a bold experiment in eco theatre-making.
“The difference between death and extinction is this: death is to cease to exist. Extinction is to extinguish. I think of death as individual. Extinction is collective.”
This innovative one woman show takes us on a life-changing journey to confront the urgent ecological disaster that is unfolding around us. Part ritual, part battle cry, and powered entirely by bicycles, this fiercely feminist off-grid production is a moving exploration of what it means to be human in an era of man-made extinction.
Sharing learning from Europe, Katie Mitchell and Headlong present an innovative touring model, the first of its kind in the UK, which sees a play tour, while the people and materials do not.
Theatre Royal Plymouth hosts part of this journey wherein each city a blueprint of the show will be uniquely brought to life by local teams, in a daring zero-travel tour. It forms part of a ground-breaking international experiment in reimagining theatre in a climate crisis.
Headlong will partner with and stage the play at The Barbican London, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Live Theatre Newcastle, New Vic Newcastle-under-Lyme, and York Theatre Royal.
Dragons & Mythical Beasts, The Lyric 14 – 15 July 2023 (3+)

This award-winning show is back on tour direct from the West End, from the creators of the international smash hit Dinosaur World Live, who bring spectacular puppets to life.
