Taylor Wimpey helps Cranbrook school ‘grow’ its eco footprint
Taylor Wimpey Exeter recently helped pupils at St Martin’s Primary School in Cranbrook plant 10 new trees to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The donation from Taylor Wimpey was to support the school’s involvement in The Queen’s Green Canopy campaign, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
Pupils worked together to plant the trees with the help of a Taylor Wimpey Sales Executive from the Cranbrook development.
The trees were paid for by Taylor Wimpey and provided by its local landscape contractor Martin’s Landscapers. The day was organised with the help of Anglea Whitten, Forest School Lead at St Martin's.
Steph Harvey, Headteacher of St Martin’s Primary School, said: “'We always encourage our Year 6 children to leave a legacy for the school, and these trees will provide exactly that within the school and community for many years to come.
“The historical significance of the Queen's jubilee marks a moment in time which our children are unlikely to experience again.
“The sense of duty that the Queen has demonstrated provides a wonderful role model for the children of Cranbrook and we encourage them to consider how they also can serve their community, exemplified by the tree planting.”
St Martin’s Primary School was built as part of the wider Cranbrook development, which Taylor Wimpey has played a significant part in.
Melissa Langton, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “It is great to be able to support local schools such as St Martin’s and to help make those positive steps in ensuring these young people live a life in a more environmentally friendly world.
“These young people are our future leaders, and we should look to reinforce the importance of helping to protect and preserve our environment in any way possible.”
