Plympton Academy joins successful Thinking Schools Academy Trust
Staff and pupils at Plympton Academy are looking forward to the year ahead after formally joining the high-performing Thinking Schools Academy Trust.
The Academy, located on Moorland Road in Plymouth, is the eighteenth academy to join the Trust which leads successful primary and secondary schools across Medway, Kent, Plymouth and Portsmouth.
Comprising nearly 1,100 pupils, Plympton Academy will now be an integral part of the Thinking Schools family and one of the two academies in Plymouth, alongside Plymouth High School for Girls.
The Academy chose to join the Trust as they share the same values and are committed to putting children at the heart of decision making and ensuring that the development of teaching and learning is a core priority.
Plympton Academy is committed to continually enhancing its provisions for pupils and future proofing them with the skills and knowledge needed to lead successful and happy lives in today’s world. Joining the Trust is a natural and exciting progression for the Academy who will work alongside the Trust’s expert senior leadership team and share learnings, resources and best practice with other academies through the Trust’s collaborative networks to continue to further develop the Academy.
This is an exciting time for Plympton Academy as it also recently had large investments in its teaching and learning facilities, including the opening of a brand-new building in September 2020 which was funded by the Department for Education’s Priority building project. The three-storey modern building boasts spacious open plan study areas and larger classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment, providing pupils with high-quality learning environments. The Academy also enjoys a contemporary Performing Arts facility which includes a full-size Dance Studio, a Recording Studio and theatre performance space.
Lisa Boorman, Principal at Plympton Academy, said: “We are delighted to be able to embark on the next phase of the Academy’s journey by becoming part of the Multi academy Trust, Thinking Schools Academy Trust. This will support a greater capacity for providing quality first education for our students and will also provide some exciting opportunities for collaboration with other schools both locally and further afield. This larger learning community will provide further opportunities for us to inspire success in all that we do”.
Stuart Gardner, Chief Executive Officer at Thinking Schools Academy Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Plympton Academy and all of its pupils and colleagues into the Thinking Schools Academy Trust community. We are a family of schools that work together to improve the life chances of all children and young people, and we are committed to providing outstanding education.
“Plympton Academy shares our strong values, and we look forward to supporting the Academy on its journey of transformation and sharing and developing best practice together.”
