Launceston man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

Police have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault.

The man, from Launceston, has been released on police bail until 10 May.

Police are investigating the alleged sexual assault in Launceston after a man targeted two teenage girls in the town.

The girls, both aged 15, were sat on a bench in Dockacre Road when they were approached by an unknown man who sat down and started talking to them.

They got up to leave when the offender offered his hand to one of them; she shook it and he pulled her towards him, kissed her, and grabbed her around the back of the neck before he inappropropriately touched her. The girl managed to pull away.

He then tried to grab the second girl by the arm but she resisted and the two girls, who are from Launceston, left the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened around 3.15pm on Thursday 11 April.

Police had released details of the suspect prior to the arrest, describing him as aged late 20s, 5ft 3ins tall, of Indian appearance and with short dark hair. He was wearing black trainers, black cotton joggers and a dark coloured hooded top with the colours of the Jamaican flag on it.
