As the Christmas shopping season approaches it seems that we are happiest making our online purchases while sat in the comfort of our lounge.
A survey by five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes, which is currently building new homes across Plymouth, reveals that almost 60 per cent of us would rather do our shopping from the comfort of our lounge than anywhere else in the house.
The study about where people prefer to make their online purchases found that the home office was also a popular option among those questioned, followed by the bedroom and kitchen.
The One Poll survey, commissioned ahead of the Christmas shopping season, does reveal a few age differences though. Those aged 18-24 years old more likely to be ordering from the sanctuary of their bedrooms and people aged over 55 years old more the most likely group to head to the dining room.
And it seems that all age groups are keen on shopping online with those aged 35-54 years old the most likely to be ordering from the internet with those older and younger less likely to be spending online.
And when it comes to home deliveries people rely heavily on the goodwill of neighbours if they are out. More than 50 per cent of people ask to have parcels delivered to a neighbor with 32 per cent hoping they will be safe by the door or in the garden and less than 10 per cent opt to pick up from a dedicated collection site.
“We know that homes are all about flexible living so it’s interesting to see how different people shop online and where they are most comfortable to be sat while ordering,” said David Wilson Homes sales director Sara Parker. “The fact that the lounge is number one is no great surprise as for many people it remains at the heart of a home’s social life.”
