Drop in at Southway Library on Friday 29 November for advice on how to stay healthy this winter, avoid debt and save money on your fuel bills.

The Winter Health event will run from 11am to 2pm.

Experts will be on hand with information on finding the best energy deal and you’ll be able to sign up to a free scheme that will search out the best tariff for you, regardless of how you pay.

At 1pm, James Barisic, CEO of marketing and training firm Social:haus (and self-confessed money-saving obsessive), will show you how to find and switch to a better tariff in a matter of minutes – painlessly.

You can borrow or reserve an energy monitor that will help you see, for free, how much energy you’re using and how you could save money.  There’s also a chance to win Love to Shop vouchers by taking part in the True Cost of Christmas Quiz.

There will be advice and information from Age UK Plymouth, Healthwatch Plymouth, the Plymouth Energy Community, Peninsula NHS treatment centre and Plymouth Credit Union.

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Winter is on its way and it’s important that people, especially elderly and more vulnerable residents, know how to stay warm and healthy. This event will provide lots of useful advice on heating your home efficiently, finding the best energy deal and where to go for help if you’re struggling.”

Deputy Leader of the Council, Peter Smith said: “Our libraries offer a wide range of health information and advice and events like this help to make people more aware of the help that’s available to them.”

The Council’s library service provides information and support on a range of health and social care issues and services. This includes a selection of health titles in all libraries and staff trained to help you find good quality health information.
