Four amazing Cornish beaches to explore
Cornwall has long been the quintessential British tourist destination. With its quaint seaside towns, idyllic scenery and salt-of-the-earth people, it’s no wonder visitors are willing to spend more in Cornwall than anywhere else in the UK.
Yet Cornwall is known best for being the home to more than 300 miles of beautiful coast. And whether you’re seeing sun, surf or picturesque coastline walks, there’s a British beach here that’s perfect for you. So, which ones should be at the top of your list?
In this article, we’ll share four amazing Cornish beaches for you to explore.
- Polzeath Beach
This stunning cove is one of the north coast’s best beaches for surfing. Its long and slow-breaking waves make it especially ideal for intermediate surfers, while the many local surfing schools by the beach can help you get started if you’re a complete beginner. Yet even though it’s best known for its water sports, it’s still a great place to enjoy a warm and lazy day lying on the sand. Plus, the amenities are first-class, and the views are spectacular.
- Freathy Beach
This beach is on the eastern stretch of Whitsand Bay, located a short distance from Saltash train station. It has a beautiful expanse of sand that’s only accessible by a winding cliff path, giving a visit here a unique sense of adventure. Just be sure not to get caught out by the tide – when it comes in, the beach all but disappears.
- Praa Sands Beach
Situated at the southwestern edge of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB), this beautiful mile of white sandy beach is as picturesque as they come. It’s a popular choice for young families who want to play in the sand and splash in the shallows. But thanks to its powerful Atlantic waves, it’s also a great choice for even the most experienced surfers.
- East Looe Beach
Golden sands, gentle waves and great amenities make this sheltered bay a Cornish classic, loved by families, swimmers and holidaymakers for decades. The beach itself is home to crystal clear water, iconic sea defences and a unique pier. And Looe town nearby has plenty of quaint streets, shops and restaurants for you to enjoy as well.
With so many fabulous places all over the county to choose from, which of these Cornish beaches would you most like to visit?
