New data released today has revealed a whopping 112% increase in sales of European city and beach holidays compared to 2019 - with Hungary being the destination with the largest increase in interest from UK holidaymakers.

Despite officially leaving the European Union on 31 January, the data shows that it has not affected Brits wanting to escape the UK for Europe's historical cities and sunny beaches.

With worsening weather conditions affecting the UK over the past month, it seems that Brits have been prompted to travel to sunnier climates.

The data revealed the top three European destinations which have seen the biggest surge in sales since 2019 were:

Destination

% increase

Hungary

90%

Netherlands

74%

Spain

51%

Iceland

39%

Greece

34%

Interestingly, when it comes to which cities in the UK who are holidaying the most, London has been revealed to be the top city for holiday purchases, followed closely by Birmingham, and Leeds.

Salman Dean, Marketing Manager at Wowcher, comments:  "It's no surprise that we have seen a surge in sales of European city breaks and beach holidays, as Brits begin to consider their trips to sunnier climates whilst the UK is enduring winter weather.  What is interesting is that Brits have shown a spike in interest in traveling to Europe since Brexit, which shows that the decision to leave the European Union hasn't affected their love for European travel."
