National role for local NHS Trust's consultant physician

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust has announced that Dr Anita Donley, Consultant Physician in acute medicine has been elected as the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) new Clinical Vice-President.

Dr Donley said: “I am delighted that fellows of the RCP have elected me as the next clinical vice-president.

“I look forward to working with members, fellows, officers, staff and other groups to continue setting higher standards. In particular, I am keen to support clinicians in developing appropriate clinical standards resources and data which can help us lead service improvement at ward and board level.”

In the role, Anita will be responsible for the RCP’s clinical quality work and will lead the Clinical Standards Department, including work relating to guidelines, national audit, service accreditation quality improvement, patient safety and revalidation. Dr Donley will represent the RCP at the highest levels in issues relating to clinical standards and the national quality agenda.

In addition to her role as an acute physician, Dr Donley is medical director of the Department of Health’s Revalidation Support Team.

The Royal College of Physicians plays a leading role, on behalf of its members to promote better healthcare for the public. The RCP leads debates across the NHS and wider audiences, engaging with the government and partners in healthcare provision.
