You might not even realise it but your bed plays a very significant part in your health and well-being. In addition to a bad bed making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, there are other problems that a bad bed can lead to.

You could experience back or neck pain from sleeping on the wrong type of mattress and a bad mattress has even been found to relate to the build up of stress.

Whilst the start of the year can be a time when you are trying to save money, the one thing that you shouldn’t try to cut costs on is the quality of your bed and particularly your mattress. Lots of stores will offer discounts and interest free credit at this time of year so if you are struggling for a good night’s sleep, it is probably time that you take action. You will soon feel the benefit of a good mattress, so it will be money well spent. You might want to consider some nice super king size wooden beds.

There are lots of different levels of firmness that are available to choose from so it is important that you pick one that gives you the most comfort. Whilst one person will find a harder mattress to be more comfortable, you might prefer a softer one. The important factor here is that you test the bed before you make the purchase. Buying a bed online can feel like the easiest way to get a new bed but how do you know if it is right for you? Bed stores are used to people going into the store and trying the beds. Have a lie down and get into your sleeping position, yes you might look a but silly but it’s a small price to pay for getting the right bed that will serve you well for next few years.

Sleep deprivation can make you irritable and less productive but it can also contribute to a number of serious health issues. Lack of sleep has been connected to problems such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease and is also linked to a shorter life expectancy, according to the NHS. They recommend that you get at least 8 hours sleep per night to allow you to function at your best. Getting enough sleep can help you feel happier and energised, so don’t underestimate the power having getting good, regular sleep.

If you’ve been feeling lethargic then maybe you need to look at your sleeping patterns and whether you need to buy a new bed or simply try to get more hours of comfortable sleep. Try not to drink caffeine later on in the day and if you are feeling stressed then maybe you need to find some stress-coping activities. Exercise can help you to release stress or if you’re finding that work is constantly playing on your mind then maybe you need to make a bold move and look for a change of jobs.

Sleep is so important to your overall wellbeing so don’t short-change yourself. For advice on finding the right mattress visit the Best Mattresses Guide.
