The Coldharbour Farm Field Kitchen team will be reinventing the traditional approach to scones as part of this year’s Taste East Devon festival.

Andrea Broadhurst and Beth Ashfield are keen to show off the scone in a new light with their special event, Scone Sundae.

Beth, who devised the dishes, says “These aren’t just your usual scones! They’re extra-large and topped with some of the very best local flavours and produce, including our own home produced ingredients.”

Diners will be able to choose from sweet and savoury options, from the ‘Hedgerow’ with its homemade blackberry and apple compote, locally made Madagascan vanilla ice cream and honey from East Hill to the ‘Barrellers’ which is piled high with Coldharbour’s own pulled pork, Quicke’s smoked double Devonshire cheese plus homemade chilli jam and tequila pickled jalapenos.

“And yes, there’s a Cream Tea too, with clotted cream and strawberry jam – plus a few additions including ice cream and fresh strawberries. We’ll be closely monitoring any disagreements about cream first or jam first!”

Scone Sundae takes place on Sunday September 11 from 10am to 3pm and must be pre-booked by calling 07379 873931.

The Taste East Devon festival kicks off with the Ottery Food & Families Festival on September 3 where the Coldharbour Farm team will be with the popular horsebox, and runs through to September 18 finishing with an afternoon of food and live music in the grounds of THE PIG-at Combe.
