University's Freshling Nursery celebrates 'outstanding' OFSTED report
Plymouth University’s Freshlings Nursery is celebrating after being rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors.
The nursery on campus currently provides care for 125 children under the age of five years old, whose parents are staff and students at the University.
Following the inspection in April, the facility has been rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted praising teaching quality, the environment for children, partnerships with parents and support from staff.
The report states: “There is a strong commitment by the manager and the staff to maintain high standards and to provide high quality childcare to ensure that every child has an enjoyable time at the nursery and makes excellent progress in all areas of learning.
“The setting has excellent partnerships with parents keeping them very well informed on a daily basis how their child has been and the progress they are making. Excellent systems are in place to ensure children are safe and secure.”
The nursery has been providing full day care since it opened in 1990. It is open all year round and currently has 25 members of staff.
This is the second report in succession that has classed the facility as outstanding. Barbara MacPherson, Childcare Manager at Freshlings Nursery, is delighted with the latest rating. She said: “Freshlings Nursery is fortunate to have such dedicated staff whose teamwork has created such a safe, caring and happy environment for the children.
"This outcome is reassurance for the student and staff parents who can work and study at the University in the knowledge that their children are being well cared for. It can only strengthen the close relationships already established."
