It's game on for children in Barne Barton
Barne Barton is getting a new football pitch. Plymouth City Council says it is working co-operatively with the local community to support the new junior football league teams and create the pitch at Estuary Way.
Goal posts are being installed on the previously inaccessible land and a pitch is being marked out.
The Barne Barton Partnership’s Green Space Forum that includes the Council, housing associations and community organisations, has secured funding from local planning Section 106 agreements so the pitch can be set up and maintained and to put in steps and fencing.
The Council has also supported the Tamar View Community Association in their bid for funding to develop under 9’s and under 12’s junior football league teams that will use the pitch.
Cabinet member for the Environment, Councillor Brian Vincent said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to open up the field in Barne Barton so the community now has a new football pitch and also a new football team.
"It’s the first football team in the neighbourhood for many years and it is a really positive step towards more active lifestyles and improving opportunities for local children and families.
“Opening up access to green spaces is all part of the vision set out in the Neighbourhood Plan and it’s great to see the community getting involved and shaping development in their area.”
