Derriford's new Happy Days nursery opens its doors
Today (Thursday 11 July) Hein Scheffer, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development (HR&OD) at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust unveiled a plaque to celebrate the opening of the new Happy Days Nursery at Derriford Business Park in Plymouth. The children of the nursery were also given access to their new high quality nursery environment that has been built and equipped with the latest new resources to promote learning.
Jackie Arthur, Managing Director of Happy Days explains: “We have worked in conjunction with Derriford Hospital to provide a nursery for its employees and also the local community, its businesses and residents.
“We have operated a nursery in the hospital grounds for five years with great success. However, this new nursery has taken our relationship with the hospital a step further.
“Together we are providing a purpose built environment for the 222 families that currently use our existing nursery and we are delighted with the quality of the environment we have created and know that our children and parents will enjoy everything the new nursery brings.
“My thanks to the dedicated staff at Derriford Nursery, all the people involved in the new build and the hospital team, particularly Shaun Mann, Senior Capital Buyer who have supported the project.”
Some of the key attractions of the new nursery are:
- Direct access to outdoors for all age groups, including a woodland area offering the opportunity for exploratory play
- Smaller rooms with fewer children in each area
- Natural and soothing décor
- Rooms furnished with wooden furniture, ergonomically designed to support the developing bodies of young children
- A summer programme offering children of all ages the opportunity to engage with the rich, natural diversity of the woodland environment
Happy Days is offering a 10% introductory discount to new parents who register at the new nursery by Monday 1 September 2013.
