Captivating family theatre...on your bike!
If you’d headed into the woods near Lee Bay on the last weekend of October 2023, you’d have been confronted with a rather peculiar sight … wolves, hunters and Little Red Riding Hood walking and running through the wilds, all in the name of theatre!
This was, of course, the inimitable Burn The Curtain Theatre Company presenting ‘The Company of Wolves’ as part of Beaford Art’s rural touring events programme. Audiences at the sell-out shows walked and ran around the nighttime countryside immersed in fairy-tale magic and delight.
Across the weekend of the first May Bank Holiday, Burn The Curtain will return to North Devon for another Beaford Arts collaboration, this time with their daytime telling of Don Quixote. But let's remember, this is Burn the Curtain we're talking about, so it's not just any old Don Quixote - it’s 'The Adventures of Don Quixote by Bicycle’!
Yes, you did read that right ... travelling together on bicycles, actors and audiences will experience Don Quixote’s colourful and misguided escapades in this exciting piece of interactive family theatre.
Audiences will be able to decorate their cycles as part of an interactive workshop at the start of the show before they set off on a leisurely bike ride, stopping along the way for thrilling storytelling fun.
“We are so excited about this production! It’s going to be a fun and imaginative theatre experience for children, parents, grandparents and friends alike” says Claire Ayres, Cultural Producer for Beaford “take in some fresh air and North Devon’s riverside beauty as you journey on this special pedal powered adventure with us.”
There will be five daytime performances during the first May Bank Holiday weekend, travelling along the Tarka Trail from Fremington Quay to Instow. So dig out the bicycles, fix those chains and pump up the tyres as adventure awaits. This one's for all the family!
